REETTA-KAISA ILES
Reetta-Kaisa Iles is a freelance choreographer-dancer and singer based in Helsinki. As a singer, Iles draws inspiration especially from archaic, long-form folk music traditions, delving deep into primal sounds and rhythm. As a dancer, she is most at home on stages that allow her to combine movement and vocal expression. In music, Iles is known from the arctic ethno-techno band Suistamon Sähkö and the more delicate Tanssilauluja Ensemble. As a choreographer-dancer, she is best known for her work with Tanssiteatteri Tsuumi as well as her own acclaimed productions such as Études on Excellence and The Snake Tramplers.
Alongside her artistic work Iles is an inspiring educator who teaches dance, folksinging, improvisation and performance for both musicians and dancers. She is currently a teacher and a doctoral researcher at Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki.
Her artistic work has been supported by
the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, the Alfred Kordelin Foundation and the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
